Our Livestock – Partners, Providers, and Part of the Family
At Nakiska Bear Ranch, livestock is more than just part of the landscape—they’re part of the life we live. As a working ranch, our animals play an active role in what we do every day: they support the land, help sustain our guests and ourselves, and remind us what it means to live in rhythm with nature.
From our goats and hens to our horses and cattle, every animal here is treated with care, dignity, and respect. We believe in responsible, sustainable ranching—where animal welfare comes first, and where nothing is wasted or taken for granted.
Our guests are invited to experience this connection first-hand. Whether it's collecting fresh eggs in the morning, helping with the goats, or simply watching our herd graze in the evening light—these moments are real, grounded, and unforgettable.

Our Horses
At Nakiska Bear Ranch, our Canadian Horses and Quarter Horses are at the heart of our breeding program. Known for their strength, reliability, and calm temperament, these breeds are perfectly suited for ranch life and the diverse terrain of British Columbia.
We breed primarily for our own needs—to develop well-balanced, sure-footed horses for trail riding and daily ranch work. At the same time, our program also has a commercial focus, offering carefully raised horses to others who value quality, character, and sound training.
For us, horse breeding is more than a business—it is a true passion. We take great care in selecting strong bloodlines, raising our horses in a natural environment, and giving them the time they need to grow into confident and trustworthy partners. This dedication ensures that every horse reflects our values: quality, respect, and a deep connection between horse, rider, and nature.
Our Goats
At Nakiska Bear Ranch, our goats play an important role in maintaining the land in a natural and sustainable way. These hardworking animals help keep the property free from weeds and overgrowth, especially in areas that are difficult to reach with machinery. With their natural grazing behavior, they act as efficient and environmentally friendly “landscapers.”
In wet and sensitive areas, where heavy equipment would damage the soil, our goats carefully clear vegetation and open up the land for future use by horses and cattle. This gentle approach protects the ecosystem, preserves soil structure, and supports long-term land health.
By working with nature instead of against it, our goats are a key part of our sustainable ranching philosophy—reducing the need for machinery, lowering environmental impact, and keeping the landscape healthy and productive.

Our Cattle
At Nakiska Bear Ranch, we raise Speckle Park cattle with great passion and dedication. This Canadian breed is well known for its exceptional meat quality and its natural ability to thrive in harsh climates. Surrounded by the vast landscapes of British Columbia, our cattle grow up in an environment that supports their health, strength, and natural behavior.
Our approach is rooted in ethical, species-appropriate, and nature-based farming. Our animals live in harmony with the seasons, roam freely on open pastures, and are fed with high-quality, locally produced feed. For us, it’s not just about producing premium beef—it’s about ensuring animal welfare and maintaining a respectful, balanced relationship with the land.
Through our farm-to-table philosophy, we combine sustainable agriculture with conscious nutrition. Short supply chains, transparent processes, and responsible resource management help us reduce environmental impact while delivering high-quality, locally produced food.
